"activities""LINCOLN"So just for a fun and quick assignment, I did what I call the frame effect, it's where you ctake a picture frame, put objects in it, take a picture, and then use photoshop to make everything outside of the frame black and white. I really like this because it can have cool effects and is just a really simple assignment to do.

"wheel and axle""post""tin can"While out doing the creek project, I was surprised to find a lot of objects and trash out in and near the creek. I decided to take pictures of some of the objects.
The first object I found was a rusted wheel on an axle, which is the photo titled "Wheel". I cannot imagine where this used to be attached to, but I can tell its been there for a while because of all the rust accumulated on the wheel. I love the lights and shadows in the pciture and I feel that gives it more dynamics. I also like that the surrounding background is brown so that the wheel pops from the ground better. The second picture is a close up of a metal post that could have been for a fence or sign. I really liked the detail of the side of the poll, so I used macro setting on my camera to capture the details. My last photo is of a metal can, which is titled "Can" I found this on the hilly part of the creek, so it is at a little bit of an angle that I like because it creates more dynamic to the photo. I also like the the background is not distracting from the object, easily making ti the focal point. "shoes""shack""wheel"This project was to take interesting and appealing pictures from ground level. We usually angle our camera up high or eye level or down below, but many of us do not think to actually place our camera on the ground or to find objects on the ground that was already placed there to make an interesting photo.
I chose to take the picture "Shoes" because we always have shoes in our house lying around, more so when my siblings are around. I found an angle which I thought was the most appealing. Using this angle, it shows different parts of different shoes such as the bottom of a shoe, a side angle, and the top part of shoes. The second picture "Shack" I took of our shack at my house. I liked the textures of the wood and so I placed my camera at an angle so you could see the wood, but also the grass and parts of the sky. Having it at this angle helped the shack and nearby grass to become the focal point. Also the leading lines that from the wood leads your eye down to the grass and having the wood extend back leads the eye to the other side of the picture. Lastly, the picture "Wheel" is of a wheel on our portable fire place. I like how the shack and grill in the background is in the shade and the rest of the picture is lit up by the sun because it draws your eye to the wheel and surrounding grass, while you do not really look at the background as much. Something that people do not always think about when taking pictures is utilizing their backyard for picture taking. I have a small wooded, creek area that I have been in, but never really explored. I decided to take pictures up and down the creek.
The first picture (Top left) is of right when I entered the wooded area. I like how the tree branches curve to help create a focal point and bring your eyes around the whole picture. I also like the contrast of the frozen creek looks to all the dull brown color. As I was walking, I noticed a patch of dirt that used to have water and how it looked colorful. I wanted to get a close up of the dirt which produced this next picture. (Top right). I love how the lighting is, with the sun shining on the dirt. I also like that you can see the many colors, along with the detail of the dirt. Going with dirt, my third picture shows ow the water eroded the sand a bit. The picture (bottom left) clearly shows the path that the water flowed the most, leaving crevices in the dirt. I like that the picture is mostly one color scheme (grays, browns, and whites) The tree shadows makes the picture more interesting to look at also. My last picture (Bottom Right) is another landscape picture of the creek. I liked how the creek bends and how the wooded area was quite different. Instead of the short grass and dead leaves, there is a lot taller grass and less leaves. there is also a lot more smaller trees and tree branches. Overall I really liked this project because I got to explore some more in my own backyard and got to be outside for a while. I thought a good way to get back to school was to start out with a fun little assignment. With a little help from Photoshop, I created this image. While I was searching for different photography projects to do I came up with this assignment. In photo shop I used the free transform, warp, and blur tool to layer the pictures as they appear above. This image only took one image a little bit of photo shop as I mentioned above. Overall, if you are looking to refresh or learn how to use some of the basic tools of photo shop this is a good project to do.
"dots""fabric"I like to get detail out in things, and abstract photography lets me do that. The picture "Dots" is a picture of a seat in a library. I took it using the macro setting and making sure it was focused before taking the shot. I was inspired to take the picture of the seat because I noticed the very fine and tight weaving that it did and I wanted to capture that. Looking at the picture it looks more like a close up of asphalt than anything, which I think looks cool.
The picture "fabric" is a picture of the carpet in the library. What inspired me to take the picture of the carpet was the colors in the carpet. Having a close up of the carpet shows each individual fibers instead of just the over all pictures, which I though was pretty neat. I got this project idea from websites when I was searching for different photography project. Taking pictures from one perspective was a common project idea. I decided to pick a child's perspective. I went back to when I was a child and what the world looked and seemed like to me. I used a child's actual perspective (what they literally see), what they see with their mind, and their personal perspectives with certain things.
The top to photos (top left and top right) are of a child's physical point of view. When I and others were a small child I was short and everything was created for adults, not small children so everything seemed huge to me as a child. That being said the top left photo is showing what supper might look like if the kid is sitting on a chair without any booster seat. Usually only their eyes peer above the table, but since I wanted to take pictures from a child'd point of view instead of just a child, I had my camera so about half of the lens was above the ledge, so people can get a sense of what a child sees if not on a booster at dinner time. On the top right, keeping with the physical perspective, I did a shot of the cupboard and what it would look like to a kid. Since kids are usually small at first cupboards can look very tall and big. Also the shelves can look very high up to a child. To show this, I went down to the ground and took a picture of the cupboard open looking up. On top of the cupboard looking huge, all the items (because of the angle) looks huge as well and that can be a bit intimidating for a little kid. with that being said if you look at the bottom right picture you can see that. With the bottom right picture you can see the personal perspective of a child. When you give them a regular size bowl that an adult would eat, to a kid in their mind (or at least in mine when I was a child) the bowl is actually really big and not just a "regular" sized bowl. To sow this thinking, instead of putting a regular sized bowl of cereal out, I put a whole (yes a whole) box of fruit loops with a pint of milk in the bowl and took a picture of it. I did this to show that a child sees a regular bowl as a pretty big size since they can't consume what we see as a regular size bowl of cereal. Last, but not least the bottom left picture shows what they see with their mind (aka imagination) Some kids have drawings above their bed of happy things like their family, smiley faces and others, but as soon as the light goes out at night, the pictures turn to monsters and demonic creatures. I wanted to capture this state of mind, So I drew bad pictures of "scary" things and put them above the bed. I put a vignette around the picture to create the mood and lighting that it was dark out and it was bed time. Lastly I put some of my little sister's old blankets on the bed so that the viewer could tell it is a child's bed. After all that, the picture was created. I really liked this project because it was fun to create all the images and made me get a little creative and have fun with the project. I think this project is good to do, because it forces you to think a little bit outside of the box and gets you to think about how others view the world. (literally and figuratively). "sprinkles""butter beer"Food can be one of the most hard things to capture. The foam can dissipate, the ice cream can melt, and the bun can get soggy. That is probably why many professional food photographers use mashed potatoes for ice cream, glue for milk in the cereal commercials and many other things. I for one, could do some of those things, but as an amateur, I do not have enough glue or enough money and equipment for those type of things that make all the food look so appetizing. That being this was pretty easy for just experimenting, before actually doing it for a bigger project.
As a non-distracting, pleasing to the eye, background I simply used my kitchen table for the shots. For the photo "Sprinkles" I got the container of sprinkles and poured them out in a line, placing the bottle directly at the end of the line. I intentionally scattered the sprinkles, so that some of them were more spread out, giving it more appeal. I then used the macro setting and took some shots, resulting in the picture above. Luckily for me, my mom and brother are really into "Harry Potter" so over the weekend we had a Harry Potter marathon, and made what is famously known as butter beer (Non-alcoholic of course). Using the drink I came up with the photo "Butter Beer". I again used my kitchen table for a background. I angled the camera so that it was slightly above the drink and took the picture so the mug was at an angle. Using the high angle it creates more interest, leading lines and you can see more detail in the foam at the top of the butter beer. From this experience, When I do a bigger project with food I am going to invest in some big white and black paper so I can make a makeshift photo box to take the pictures in for more of a professional look. "drain""sky light"Black and white photos are a classic. Almost everything that has been invented that shows pictures or videos has first started out in black and white like photographs and televisions. I like doing black and white because it forces myself and others to think differently. We cannot think in color, we have to think in black and white and look to see what would give good contrast and make the best picture. I tried to find objects and places that were not just similar colors.
The photo "Drain" shows a sewer drain that is on a sidewalk that I happen to see almost everyday. I have been wanting to use it in a picture, but until today I did not know when or how to use it in a photo. What I like about doing the photo "Drain" is that you can clearly see where gum and other things have stuck onto the drain. It gives the photo more texture. The picture "Sky Light" was of the ceiling in the entry way of the school. I think the light coming from the window adds a nice brightness to the photo while where the natural light is not directly hidden there are shadows which create a nice contrast equaling out the brightness. along with the leading lines which is leading to the window, and creates a good and interesting photo. Earlier this morning, I was trying to capture the sunrise, for a project. While I was at a park in a nearby town, I noticed the dock that is shown. I took some pictures of the dock, and thought the photos turned out pretty well even though you cannot really see the sunrise because of the overcast. I find docks really fun to photograph because you can do many angles and views from and around docks.
