I have decided to take an item from the lost and found and take photos of how it got lost or where someone might have found it. The first photo (far left) is of the jacket lying on a table. Students and people alike often become in a rush, especially after lunch which brings them to forget their coat or other valuable items on the table. I showed that, by having the coat in a mess on the table. Most people who are in a rush do not bother to set their coat in a nice manner so I wanted to show that in this picture.
Going along with being in a rush, many kids forget their coat on the back of chairs. I have done this many times and have often seen a jacket or two left behind hanging over a chair. That is how I decided to take this photo. Lastly, the third one is of the jacket just laying in the hallway. I have seen this with many items like water bottles, but not too many with jackets, but it can happen. I feel if I turned this photo into black and white or put a vignette around it, it could be a non profit organization ad for lost things that has the slogan "no objects left behind". As a bonus if it was a TV ad it would have the sad music playing in the back ground. :P Some people will laugh at my joke and others will just shake their heads.

Most of us have done some sort of scavenger hunt sometime in our life. It is something that can be fun, but also challenging to do if you cannot find a particular object that we are looking for. I decided to do a scavenge hunt around the school. I made a list using a random list generator (click here for the website) I made a list of all the things that are possibly in the school (such as pool, gym equipment, mouses, etc) and choose how many the generator should choose for me to find. At the top above the list, are the three it has chosen. I then proceeded to find those three objects/things around the school.
My three objects it selected was: Room sign vending machine phone (not counting cell phones or phones inside of classrooms) The first photo is of a sign that shows where the locker room in. I took it at a angle since I feel that it shows the sign in the most appealing way. The second photo is of a vending machine. It was located towards the gym. I like how the glass in the photo is reflecting some of the hallway which makes the photo have a slight double exposure kind of look even tough there has been no added Photoshop to the photo. Lastly, it is of the phone. I found this phone outside of the office that students can use to call home or other places instead of going into the office and using their phone. I turned the photo to black and white because I think it looks better and creates a more captivating photo. "chalk""color mess""brush"For this assignment I confined myself to one room only that I could take photos in. Since I have the art teacher this hour and there are not children, but me I decided to do the art room. The first photo of the chalk board is of the railing/shelving spot underneath the chalk board. It is where he keeps his chalk and eraser. I like that the various pieces of chalk leads the eye down the railing and eventually leading up to the chalk board eraser, It is a simple, yet effective photo.
The second photo that is in the middle, is of colored pencils in his room. The teacher has a box full of various colored pencils and I thought all the bright colors in one photo would look nice. That is why I decided to take the photo of the colored pencils. Lastly, I have the photo of all his paint brushes. He has them all in a few buckets and I decided to take a photo with the paint brushes because of the texture that the brush tips have. Though the art room is probably an easier choice because of all the materials, colors and textures an art room usually has in it, This assignment can be challenging depending on the room that you stay in. "mystical""anger"The purpose of this assignment was to take photos of a body part (not including face/head) to make an unique and interesting photo. Since I was wearing spring like sandals I decided to go outside I put my foot in the middle of a "field" of dandelions. I look the photo and used color balance in Photoshop to get the green in the grass to show through more giving it more of a mystical touch to it (that's my opinion anyway).
The second photo "Anger" depicts my hand that is shaped like a fist and looks as if it is punching a wall. I seen the brick wall and that's how I got the idea because people (especially in movies) when they get mad they punch a wall and usually hurt themselves. I took the photo with my hand resting against the wall and took the shot at an angle. I did not do anything, besides crop in photo shop with this photo. As a photographer, I am so focused on getting a good photo that I sometimes get frustrated or stuck. This assignment though I had to take purposefully bad photos. It was harder than someone might think because I have trained my brain to automatically make sure photos are following the rules of photography such as rule of thirds, lighting, etc.
The first photo, with the sign is breaking the rule of not cutting part of the focal point out. This photo bothers me just looking at it because the sign's corner is cut off in the photo. The second one is breaking the rule of thirds since the hydrant (which is supposed to be the focal point) is in the dead center and know on the invisible lines that we use for the rule of thirds to make photos look good. Overall, this was a good photo assignment to end the week off (especially with the stress of doing good in school) and I got to purposefully do things in the wrong way and for this assignment have it be right. "lights""men's"Now usually if a photo is blurry anywhere (beside certain circumstances) it would be considered a bad photo. This time though, I intentionally created photos that are blurry to give a semi-abstract look. I did this by clicking the shutter button and moving my camera in a fast downward motion while it was taking the photo to get this look. During editing, (cropping, levels, etc.) I played with the color balance a tad, to bring out some of the colors. This helped bring out the effect and added something more to the photos.
The first photo "Lights" is a photo of the lunch room in the school. Because of the motion, it created streaks in the photo, which I find it to look as though water spilled on the photo. it also creates more lines that are going in about the same direction creating some repetition. The second photo "Men's" is of the men's bathroom sign. I like how using the technique above the photo has a double vision kind of effect having the men's letters in the sign appearing twice. In the background there are lines created everywhere making it looked pretty warped in the background. This assignment was fun to do and pretty simple, but with a lot of picture not turning out the way I wanted them to, despite that challenge I feel as though I have came out with some pretty neat photos. Our town is not big, nor is a famous tourist site so we have no reason to have a post card, but I decided to make a post card for our town. This was a fun assignment to do for fun that can help someone like me think a little bit creative. I thought of what made our town a little more unique than the neighboring towns and I thought of all the farm boys and how our school is literally surrounded by corn fields. In the end I incorporated the corn into the saying. It also suites our town because we have an annual corn carnival near the end of summer.
We see signs everyday whether we drive or not. We see business signs, road signs, and many other signs. I wanted to do this project to show different and possibly unique signs that are out there. I specifically concentrated on the smaller signs that you typically see when at some places.
The first photo (far left) is right in front of my school, which is the handicap sign,. This is probably the most common sign I see around. I wanted to take a picture of this one in particular because it was crooked and not standing straight up. A car must of hit this sign, to make it slanted, which I thought made this sign unique. The second photo (middle) is by a swimming beach warning others that there is no lif guard on duty. I like how the red contrasts from the neutral background of the water and sand. This sign, like the other is crooked also, which adds more appeal. Lastly, Is at a park that pretty much tells people to clean up after their pets. I liked this picture from the fact that, I have seen similar signs to this one, but nothing quite like it. Through this project I have gotten to see boring signs differently as a interesting subject matter. I liked having the background which gives the viewer context clues on why the sign is where it is at and why it looks the way it does. So on a sunny day, I went to the park to take some pictures of the park. I headed on the trails and found some interesting things. The top left photo is some kind of moss or plant that I found on an old trail that wasn't being kept up anymore, but you still could tell it was once a path. It stood out from the boring brown of the trees with the bright and full green color it has. I like the many different textures this plant has which has created an awesome photo.
Similar to this is the bottom right photo (I know I am jumping around a little) which I know is of some sort of moss. It blended a little more in than the other photo, due that it was in a grassy like area, but I still really like the bottom right photo as well. Now going back to the top, I took a picture of the snake up in the top right. This was a rare find for me as I have never been able to get close enough to any sort of living creature without it running away, Snakes are common at the park I go to, so I did see some snakes while walking the trail, but I never been able to capture them on camera. After I took this picture, I did poke it with a stick to see if it was alive and it was because it scurried away once it was poked. Right before I got to the bench with the snake on it, I was down by the lake, which was where I took the last two photos. The middle photo is of a tree by the lake with a leaf starting to form. I like the many branches in the background which creates more to look at than just the little leaf and adds to the overall picture. Lastly, the bottom left photo is of a fallen tree that is over the beginning of the lake. I like the tree in the photo because it leads the eye to the water and to the rest of the picture. Overall, I really liked doing this project because it was relaxing and fairly easy. I did not notice how fast the time went by either while taking the pictures. "basket""egg hunt""eggs"So it was Easter and this year I created an Easter egg hunt for my siblings. The first picture "Basket" was created while I was creating the Easter egg hunt. I used the eggs and have them lead back to the basket that I hide as a bonus prize for whoever would find it. This photo is probably my favorite picture out of the three because the colors are vibrant, but at the same time simple. It just turned out to be a great photo.
The second photo "Egg Hunt" was a picture of where I hide one of the eggs. It was in an old flower pot that we had lying on the deck at our house, I like the little pieces of dirt at the bottom that adds texture to the photo and I also like that the egg is yellow which makes it stand out from the background. Lastly, the photo "Eggs" is the aftermath of the hunt. It is all of the eggs that were found all opened up and left over. I like how all the eggs are in one place to show the quantity of how many eggs there were all together. I also like seeing all the colors together in the photo. |
